Project Log for Week 7: Start of Project 2
Currently we are in the very beginning stages of the project. We came up with our group name, The Garfunkels, and also came up with out topic, which involves cell phone technology, specifically GPS and voice software recognition. Our group got online on Wed. February 20th to make sure everyone agreed on the name and topic of the group. Prior to this everyone in the group sent out an email with all of their contact information. As everyone was online, we all came to an agreement, and it appears the group will continue to function well. The group found a way to communicate and get the job done, however, I hope in future weeks we can communicate all together a little bit earlier in the week. We are currently working on establishing a meeting time for next week to get started on everything, roles especially.

The Garfunkels... how did your group come up with that name?! Very cute group name! Also, you mentioned wanting to communicate earlier in the week. Did you find that your group was scrambling to pull things together at the last minute? I think it is hard to collaborate with group work and so many things need to be run by everyone that work takes longer to organize and finalize. Has your group come up with a way to avoid these tendencies? Do you find meeting once and doing everything or multiple times and breaking up the work in more beneficial?
Communication
I think that communication is going to be one of the most important aspects of this project, and if any group does not have good communication, then nothing will get accomplished. I think that when I talked on AIM to Jenna and Jon we communicated really well and it seemed that we all agreed on the things that we had to decide. It seems that our group has the same ideas for this project, so I think that we are going to do just fine! Also, we need to get together and talk about what we are going to post tonight.

I also agree that effective communicate will be the most important aspect to this project. I think using AIM is the most effective means of communication. The group chat seemed to work really well tonight. It allowed us to share ideas quickly and it seemed like we got a lot completed in a short amount of time. Email is also still a good form of communication but it just isn’t as quick. I think that our group will do just fine with this project if we keep up with the communication. I can’t wait to actually get started on the bulk of the project!
