To land Job Choice #1 internship, I think it is most important to have a strong accounting and finance background because it looks like bt1423 would be doing mostly financial planning and analyzing. It seems like there might be a good deal of responsibility, especially considering interns will be assisting with preparing senior level management reviews. These reviews, along with developing long-range financial plans, seems like the most difficult aspect of the job. Hopefully Purdue University accounting and finance courses will prepare bt1423 for this position. The hardest criteria to meet is definitely the 3.0/4.0 GPA requirement. My roommate is an accounting major and I know how much she struggles to keep her grades up with those tough courses. I believe she is below a 3.0 GPA, so that requirement might weed out a good portion of the potential candidates for the internship. However, NCR Corporation is a prestigous company and bt1423 appears to have the experience they are looking for. Accounting and finance are great areas of business to get into, and NCR deals with a wide range of industries, including retail, travel, healthcare, and hospitality as well. Overall, I think landing this internship would be a great resume builder and could maybe be a career choice down the road.

Job # 2 looks like a very good job option. I think that the most important aspects of this job would be strong computer proficiencies and excellent verbal and written skills. As stated in the job description duties performed could possibly be ‘general accounting, accounts receivable, cash, inventory and wholesale’. To be efficient with these tasks you will need to be very familiar with the computer. You could possibly have to enter formulas and keep track of data and be able to retrieve it quickly. It is also important to have great communication skills. Since you would be working under the supervision of an intern manager, many questions may arise. Having effective communication skills would help you to be confident in your questions and to help you learn quickly. I think the most difficult part of the job would be to have the minimum 3.0 GPA. I am also in Accounting and I know that may of the required classes are very difficult. But overall I think this look like a very good job opportunity. I think it would give you great experience and it would also give you a glimpse into the kind of work Accountants perform.
