Job Search Activity 12-1
1. My first actual job experience was in Owen Hall at Purdue University. I didn’t have an exact job title. The type of work I preformed was cleaning and painting the rooms and any other odd jobs that needed to be completed before the students returned to school. My supervisor’s name was Dennis. The only requirements for the job were cleaning and painting skills. My second and current job is coaching basketball at Central Catholic, my former high school in Lafayette. The title of my position is 8th grade girls basketball assistant coach. The dates of employment are November 2007-present. My supervisor’s name is Geoff. Job requirements include a great understanding of basketball and also communication skills.
2. I have a couple experiences with volunteer work. For the past 4 years I have volunteered for Jubilee Christmas at my church. Jubilee Christmas is a yearly event where a Christmas is provided for under privileged families. For this job I go shopping and buy gifts and also help wrap presents. This past fall I coached 5th and 6th grade volleyball at St. Lawrence, a local elementary school. This was a huge responsibility with keeping track of about 22 girls and being able to communicate effectively with them.
3. I have not had any internship experiences yet.
4. Com 114 taught me some important skills that will be used in almost every aspect of life. The class taught me to communicate effectively and to get the message across. The class also provided me with some group experience and being able to work with other people to complete a task.
5. Yes, I currently have a Lily Endowment Scholarship. This scholarship provides me with four years of full tuition to any Indiana college and also money for books. The college I chose was Purdue. I applied for this scholarship my senior year of high school. The requirements for the scholarship were community involvement, volunteering, extra curricular activities, financial need, and just being a very well rounded person.
6. A skill that I have would be that I’m somewhat of a perfectionist. Some might not consider that a skill but I tend to pay close attention to detail. This skill will help in my future profession of being an account because just one wrong number could make the world of a difference.
7. I do have experience with working with younger children. Being able to convey a message to those children can be very tricky.
8. I do have computer skills. I know Microsoft excel and word fairly well.
9. I have skills working with simple office equipment including copying and fax machines.
