Job Search Activity 12-1
1. Last summer I worked for F.R. Sheet metal in Gary, IN. Some requirements for that internship were to track submittals, inspect jobsites, and wrote up contract with clients. The summer of 2006, I worked for Burkhart Advertising here in Lafayette. I took this job mainly because my girlfriend was staying here for summer classes and I wanted to live with her. Some responsibilities I had were to assist in building highway billboards, paint some billboards, and input inventory data. In the summer of 2005 I had another internship working for a company called, "Flooring Done Right". This company was located in my home town of Crown Point, IN. I installed just about every type of flooring you can think of that summer. I was forced to obtain internships early in college because of a minimum 800 construction work hour requirement for my graduation. This is actually a lot harder than you think.
2. No, I have not volunteered for any organization.
3. Yes, I explained them in question No. 1.
4. I would say that most of my classes have taught me a lot of valuable skills, but I suppose 2 classes really have taught me the most valuable skill I need, leadership. Both, BCM 450 and BCM 455 have taught me that a leader is NOT a manager. A leader inspires and influences people to care about their work as well as being productive. This is one idea that will stick with me for my whole life.
5. No, I haven't received any scholarships. I have made Dean's list for the past 4 semesters, but I don't think that's actually a reward.
6. I very creative when it comes to problem solving. I'm good at coming up with ways to fix things even if we are missing a good amount of the pieces it would normally take to solve the problem. I guess I would called myself a "handyman". Becuase of this ability, I can better serve the construction industry in managing problems associated with the construction process.
7. I don't speak any other language, but I have worked in plenty of teams. Most of the teams I've worked in have been with 3-6 people.
8. I do consider myself computer literate. I can do pretty much anything with windows xp. I have built 2 computers from scratch. I know the office applications as well as Autocad, Primavera, and Timberline.
9. I have used a forklift before. I have also rebuilt 4 cars now including 2 corvettes, a camaro, and a toyota truck.
