Project Log for Week 16: Finally
Posted April 24th, 2008 by cubs2008We started this week off by waiting to hear feedback from our conatact person on our rough draft. She liked it and also wanted us to make a second one that is targeted towards a younder audience. Our group has mostly communicated by email to divide the work up. It feels good to be where we're at now. I really enjoyed working with the people in my group. Hope you all have a good summer.
Project Log for Week 15: Revisions
Posted April 20th, 2008 by cubs2008This week our group communicated by email to delegate tasks for our assignments. Mike and I wrote the instructor and client memos, Sara did the revisions to the powerpoint, and Erin stayed in contact with Julie and Jane throughout the week to make sure things were going in the right direction. We sent our revised powerpoint to Julie this week and received feedback from her. Later in the week we sent the revised powerpoint to Jane and we are waiting to hear her feedback. We never met in person but I think we will meet sometime in the coming days to finish the revisions.
Project Log for Week 14: Meetings
Posted April 13th, 2008 by cubs2008This week our group communicated early in the week to arrange an in-person meeting and a meeting with Jane at the Lafayette Crisis Center. We were all able to meet on Tuesday at the Union. While there we determined who was going to finish editing the proposal, who would to the client research memo, and who would compose the other two weekly memos. Then on Wednesday two members met with Jane in-person to go over some more details about the PowerPoint they would like. We were able to attain their current PowerPoint and email it to everyone.
Reading Response: Ch. 24 & 25
Posted April 13th, 2008 by cubs2008These two chapters were very informative and I think they will help in a great deal as we begin to finish this project. Since our organization is having us construct a new PowerPoint, there is a lot we can apply to it from what we read in chapter 24 and 25. The most helpful in terms of our purpose for the PowerPoint is the chapter on using visuals to inform and persuade. The PowerPoint we turn in to our organization will be used at special events, concerts, and fundraisers that the organization put on. It will be playing in the background throughout the whole time on a loop.
Project Log for Week 13: The Beginning of the End
Posted April 4th, 2008 by cubs2008This week our group got in contact with our non-profit organization, the Lafayette Crisis Center, through Jane McCann, the Executive Director. She is the one who we will communicate with as this project progresses. We learned what our overall objective for this project would be. We will be updating/revamping/redoing the powerpoint that the organization uses at fundraisers and other events. She described it as "not visually appealing" so I think we have our work cut out for us. We determined that Sara will be the contact person.
Reading Response Faber, Text, Proj 3
Posted April 4th, 2008 by cubs2008I am pretty excited now that I know a little more about project three. It will be interesting now that we not only have to communicate with our group members regularly, but we also have to communicate with the contact person for our assigned non-profit organization. I like the fact that we are in some way benefiting these organizations. Not only can we look back at this project and feel like we learned something new and valuable, but we can say our project made this community better. My group is working with the Lafayette Crisis Center and we will be updating a powerpoint for them.
Project Log for Week 12: The Final Chapter
Posted March 26th, 2008 by cubs2008This was the final week of our white paper project, and the most difficult I believe. We texted eachother back and forth monday night and tuesday afternoon to decide on a time when everyone could meet. We met on tuesday the 25th at krannert around 9pm to discuss the final revions. We talked on the phone with Gautam who was in Chicago. We all looked for grammatical errors and discussed if we needed to rearrange any sections. We decided to move the section about privacy issues before the benefits section.
Project Log for Week 11: White Paper Rough Draft
Posted March 23rd, 2008 by cubs2008We started the week off by planning another meeting before the first draft was due. We were all able to meet together in the union on Wednesday except for Gautam who lives in Chicago. We were able to communicate with him on aim though. At the meeting, we decided who was going to submit the first draft and also made sure everyone was doing what they were supposed to do. We also determined the order of the body. We ran into a problem right before the paper was to be submitted. However, I am glad this problem did not go unnoticed.
Project Log for Week 9: Research
Posted March 9th, 2008 by cubs2008This week each group member found four sources on Monday and four more on Wednesday. We found a lot of interesting articles related to our topic that should make our paper informative and convincing. Since we have five members in our group, we actual have 40 sources compared to 32 in other groups. Hopefullly we don't lose momentum since we're in Sprink Break right now. We have been talking about having a group meeting so that should be done soon when everyone returns.
