White Paper Worklog

Week 5: February 4-8

This week, Chris, Ross, and myself assembled a group relating to the White Paper project. Having worked on the grammar project, we had some background experience in terms of our personal strengths and weaknesses, allowing us to begin work immediately on the proposal. Decided to focus on E-Paper, a technology I've taken a brief look at in the past, which Chris and Ross expressed interest in working on in our grammar group. We composed a lengthy proposal with our collective inputs, and decided to focus on how E-Paper has, and continues to impact writers in professional environments, informing readers through a research report-based White Paper on informing the reader of the specific technologies, and how they affect the corporate environment as objectively as possible. We have several sources that we've identified as current and helpful in guiding the early process, and we expect to uncover more information next week. We seem to be more comfortable with MLA than APA style formatting for these sources, and it will probably be a focus in the memo next week unless we decide otherwise.

Week 6: February 11-15

After a writing mishap, we discussed focusing on project deliverables for the proposal rewrite, and researched the most viable solutions for the biggest issues pertaining to e-paper. We settled on looking at document security, and the breaches of confidentiality and privacy associated with digitizing information as an ethical concern. E-paper's specific implications on this are to be addressed in the paper along with the technologies that make it possible, and will be more or less a weighing of pros and cons up leading up to our proposed solutions. We agreed to meet twice on Monday after conducting some extensive research over the weekend on how we can tie these principles in, along with why the topic is so important to businesses both financially and ethnically.

Week 7: February 18-22

Over the weekend, we assigned and worked on paper sections. Ross was tasked with constructing and researching the security section, Chris the financial section, and I was allocated the technology section. All of the sections were then e-mailed to me, and I did the necessary editing, and basic paper formatting for a polished draft. Word flow and layout were my primary focuses for this week. For next week, we will be polishing our citations, adding a background section to help define e-paper for the reader, and on Monday we will discuss formatting in greater detail and some of the images that will be incorporated.

Week 8: February 25-29

On Monday, the group met after class to discuss final editing and the implementation of last minute sources. We then discussed placement of images, in-text figure citation, and improvement of in-text citations. The placement of images within the paper were a primary focus, as we tried to target the most appropriate places for images in terms of formatting and correlation with the text in terms of location. For Wednesday, we went over the final paper formatting, adding tables, numbers, added final locations for images, and captions were implemented and formatted. For next week, we will be going over our Powerpoint slides, making final adjustments, and practicing for our presentation.

Week 9: March 3-7

After deciding on impulse to present Friday, we met over the weekend to finalize paper formatting. The PowerPoint was finalized, and we allocated the specific slides focusing on our research topics to the group members most acclimated with the topics. We discussed pacing issues, and how we wanted to integrate Papercalculator.org into the presentation for a greater impact. After a minor technical issue, we were able to present with minor time constraints. We planned extensively to incorporate equal individual member presence in the presentation, and tasked members with answering questions from their individual topics as well. Overall, the project outcome was satisfactory and everyone seems happy with the feedback and project results. The process went very smoothly, and each of us felt we would work well as a group again.
