this week we presented our final oral presentation and felt the relief of being done with our deliverables as of wednesday when we professionally printed the brochure and Spencer complied our individual sections of the project assessment. All and all I feel our project went well, our presentation was concise and covered all the bases required on the calandar. I think our brochure was especially professional looking as well as a good condensed version of our powerpoint deliverable.

service learning project week 5
Submitted by dpoer on Fri, 04/18/2008 - 09:27.this week our group hit our first major roadblock, trying to successfully wield Adobe En-Design (or (in-design) or what ever, it's a stupid asinine program anyway, not worth of the Adobe brand. Then again, maybe it's not the programs fault, but user error. After all non of us in the group have any real experience with any of the design software, but we chose en-design over publisher mostly because it's the more expensive more "professional" program, so therefore it must be better, right? This hurdle has made crafting our brochure tedious and time consuming.
service learning project week 4
Submitted by dpoer on Fri, 04/11/2008 - 15:19.this week our grup met twice and put together the rough draft of our main deliverable, a powerpoint presentation geared towards community business owners and professionals to both raise awarness and hopefully funding toward the "A Song for Life" hospital. I found this week to be frustrating because my skill with powerpoint 07 is very limited, I feel as if I'm learning things over again that at one point I already knew. Next week we'll focus on the brochure and on presentation of our project.
service learning project week 3
Submitted by dpoer on Sun, 04/06/2008 - 14:46.this week we focused on completing our memorandum of agreement, which helped us to see our project in its entirety and divide the work amongst ourselves. My portion of the deliverable will be to describe the hospital progress and show the project in its completion. Next week we are planning on compiling our individual research to create the deliverable.
Service Learning Project Week 2
Submitted by dpoer on Fri, 03/28/2008 - 16:00.this week was exciting, we decided on the direction of our project and created a timetable and proposal of our intentions. The thing I'm most excited about is that the organization we are working with; the Timmy Foundation, does amazing outreach around the world, and Tierra Nueva (the satelite organization) has a very unique and plausable design with their system of building a hospital in stages. The idea that it only takes around $5000 to put in a hospital room makes the task of building a hospital in a developing nation a lot less daunting of a task.
Service Learning Project week 1
Submitted by dpoer on Fri, 03/21/2008 - 16:28.this week Linsay, Spencer, and I; the dream team of white papers, decided to colaborate again for the service learning project. Initially we thought we would work with someone in the PR department of the womens basketball program, but when Jared presented to us his idea we decided that the hospital project was the way to go. I'm excited to have Jared teamed up with us, he seems very enthusiastic and he seems to know his stuff. I'm looking forward to this project.
week 9
Submitted by dpoer on Fri, 03/07/2008 - 10:31.This week our group prepared for our oral presentation, a decided that a loose forum was the best way to go about presenting the densely scientific material of our topic. We attempted to keep slides to minimal reading and draw mostly on pictures and diagrams rather than overly wordy slides. Lindsay found an excellent video that discussed some of the negative implications of our topic, however, because of the projector problems we were unable to utilize it in our presentation and instead were forced to summarize.
week 8
Submitted by dpoer on Fri, 02/29/2008 - 09:58.This week was crazy busy, but we managed to pull the white paper together. We worked well as a group when it counted, meeting in hicks and formatting and combining our individual portions of the paper to form a cohesive and readable text. I personally enjoyed formatting graphics and creating a coversheet. Getting the white paper professionally printed proved to be rather challenging however, Copy-Mat fills me with sorrow. Next week we will get together and recreate our white paper in oral presentation form for wednesday.
Week 7 blog
Submitted by dpoer on Sun, 02/24/2008 - 17:14.I just want to say that I DID POST a blog before 5pm last friday, but today, when I was looking for it to see if there were any comments from my group members I couldn't find my latest blog, and now I'm worried that it actually might not have gotten posted. So, I'll write it again...
week 5 progress
Submitted by dpoer on Fri, 02/08/2008 - 11:50.this week we prepared to begin work on the white paper assignment. we broke into groups and wrote a proposal of a topic which will be easy to research, yet relevant to current issues. On Monday night my colaborative group met and we completed the presentation on dashes, parenthesis, brackets, cultural context, and non-sexist language. On wednesday we presented, and I feel our presentation went moderately well. Unfortunantly we went a little on the long side and took most of the class period, forcing the white paper proposals forward to friday.
