I don't know about everyone else but I found yesterdays in-class debate to be rather enjoyable. I think we should have more oppurtunities to read argumentative articles and voice our opinions on them, especially since we never had this oppurtunity in high school. High school was more about keeping the peace inside the classroom and trying to do your best to get a good grade. If there is one thing my teachers in high school did forwarn me about college is that people here come a variety of backgrounds which means everyone is going to have their own opinions. I think yesterday was a good oppurtunity for all of us to voice our own ideas about an argumentative topic.

I enjoyed the class on Wednesday too and am glad to hear that you found it enjoyable. I can understand how frustrating it can be for you all to understand and respond to the expectations of college life since they are quite different from the ones for high school. Believe it or not, I too was a freshman once:-) so I remember how lost I had felt then.
but I think we can continue the discussion here. I am looking forward to it.
But, everything is not as dark as it seems. You are all adults now which means your ideas and opinions are important and there are no right answers that you have to find out and comply to. You have to decide for your own what you think or how you feel about serious matters. It can be confusing sometimes since nobody will tell you how to feel or what to think but when you get used to it I think you will all like to be adults and treated as such. Of course there is a catch. You are expected to respect what other people have to say. But isn't it a small price to pay to be free thinkers? And if you think about it, we have so much to learn from each other. Even if we do not agree with others, we can still listen to them and make better arguments and be more convincing next time. Moreover, what is the point of communicating with people we agree, all the time. Believe me, it gets boring after a while
So, I would like to hear more from you all about your college experience so far. Who knows, maybe you can learn a couple of tricks from each other. Unfortunately we cannot spend much time in class to discuss these matters since we have to cover other things
Be ready to be taken seriously, and yes even by adults not just by your peers

I really enjoyed yesterdays class. I thought the topic was very interesting, and i wish we would have had more time to talk about it in class. It is to bad we have never done that before, i think everybody had something that they wanted to say. I never really got a chance to do anything like that in high school so it was very new to me. Hopefully we might get a chance to try another debate out before we finish school this year.
