Werewolves In Their Youth vs. Spikes vs. In The Black Mill (Blog 2)

After finishing reading the short story, In The Black Mill, I found several connections between the characters in the story and those in the story, Spikes. First, I believe that there could be a relation between the state of Bengt and Dexter as both dominant male influences in their lives have been taken away. This theme is also observed in Werewolves In Their Youth, where Paul's father is somewhat divorced from his mother, dramatically limiting the time he spends with him.

Werewolves In Their Youth: Spikes

The short story of Spikes in the Werewolves In Their Youth book describes a man named Kohn and his past issues with his marriage, as well as his interaction with a child neighbor. After reading the story, I thought that there could be an explanation for Kohn's decision to miss the meeting with his lawyer and stay at Bengt's baseball practice. Earlier in the story, Kohn's loss of his son is explained, which aslo descibes why his wife left him.

This Weekend

Well, this weekend's going to be really busy for me as I need to rehearse a piece that I'm performing for the percussion concert. It's a four mallet marimba piece title "Rhythm Song," and I'll basically be at Elliot all weekend working on it. So, if anyone gets really really bored, you can swing down to the Hall of Music and maybe I'll play a little for ya.

Better than Raquetball

My friend and I thought of a new game that is pretty much like raquetball, but I think more aggressive. Each player faces opposite sides of the court and hits the ball against the wall their facing, and can only play off their wall. We called it richetball. You guys should try it.

First Blog

Well, here's my first blog entry, and I think I'll start just by explaining and describing myself a little. I'm a freshman engineer, hopefully to be enrolled in the School of Mechanical Engineering next semester. I'm also in the Purdue AAMB, or All-American Marching Band, where I play the quad or tenor drums on the drumline. I'm in the Symphonic Band, as well as the Purdue Percussion Ensemble this semester, and our percussion concert's on April 13 at 2:30 in the Loeb Playhouse, and it's FREE, so feel free to come! That's about it for now. Take it easy.
