Potential Communications, Scott Dennis, 04/07/08, RyanG0301
I have several ideas for communications that might aid in resolving some of the communication related issues that my fraternity is experiencing.
-Make and present a PowerPoint presentation to the organization pointing out what are current goals are and what issues are preventing us from reaching them. This is important because members who don’t hold officer positions can otherwise be left in the dark for what direction the organization is going.
-We have a website that was recently redesigned and updated, but it is not being used to its full potential. I would like to see it used and updated more often than simply for the fall rush season. It could be used as phone/contact guide for all the members of the fraternity since it can sometimes be hard to locate contact information when needed. Also, it could be used to organize a calendar that all members could access thus providing a central easy to check place for event dates and information.
-We should implement a suggestion box and/or electronic means of expressing individual member opinions to the ACB. The communication lines between the house and the housing corporation are limited and to some degree nonexistent at the current moment and this is no in the houses best interest since their decisions affect us directly.
-We should refine the use of the house email list for purposes that are actually relevant to the house and its members in order to prevent members from placing the list on a spam type importance level. I believe that a clear outline of what communications are proper to be sent on a full house basis is an important step to achieving that.
-I believe that we should implement a more regular schedule of brotherhood events instead of simply having an event once or twice a school year. I believe that we should at least have an outing or dinner as a group on a monthly basis where lines of communication can be kept fresh between all members and have a more unified group versus the separation that the house currently experiences.
-The use of more advertisements for our fraternity events such as philanthropies will create a better name for us in addition to gaining more participation. This will help our public relations along with increasing name recognition.
-The use of paper postings on room door before major required events could help in participation and ensure that members know when and where they need to be for events that are of high importance.
