Organization Choice, Scott Dennis, 4/2/08, ElizabethD0201

I have decided to choose Campus Crusade for Christ as my organization to help because I see a tremendous glip in the Friday night all campus meeting. CRU is a Christian organization here on Purdue's campus and on 3,500 campuses in the US and overseas. Here at Purdue, we meet regularly on Friday nights and engage in a time of worship, that usually includes a talk. One of the biggest complaints that I have with CRU is that they do not have a consistent speaker. They will bring in people from all over the region, have someone on staff speak, or allow a senior to speak. These are all good alternatives, but I think a consistent speaker, someone who is gifted in speaking, would be a wise choice for the organization. The consistency of one main speaker with an occasional change (ie a guest speaker) would be a much better choice than having amateur speakers every single week throughout the year.

I can see how your meeting are not interesting if you have the same people constantly talking. It might be beneficial to create some kind of survey for the members to fill out about their expectations or preferences for the meeting. Each member could have an opportunity to list someone they know that might be interesting to speak at the meeting, and the group could vote. Also maybe you could aim to have two speakers a month, and strive to have a few really great speakers. The group could vote on other activities to do during the other two meetings. Discussion groups or maybe a book club type meeting could also be cool for your organization.
