Organizational Choice, Scott Dennis, 04/02/08, RyanG0301
The organization that I have decided to go with for this project is my fraternity here at Purdue. I have been a part of the Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity since basically the first days of my college career. Over the past three years of my participation within the organization I have had the opportunity to experience many different aspects of the organization both good and bad. Delta Sig is a dynamic organization that is always changing as an organization and growing with its members as they grow. I have had the opportunity to not only participate as an active brother but I have also held two positions within the Fraternity. The first position I held was Scholarship Director in which I was exposed to many new aspects of the organization on a more operational level. I also held position as Campus Relations Director, which provided yet another slightly different view of Delta Sig as a functioning organization. Through my development and growth within the organization, I feel that I have been able to identify some basic yet extremely important issues that have over the years held us back from fulfilling our full potential. These issues include respect, communication, and motivation. I believe that all three of those issues are interrelated and fuel one another. For this project, I want to address the relation between the issues to provide the organization with an understanding of the why the milestones that we are trying to achieve are being kept out of reach. I then want to provide suggestions to the organization for improving upon relations within the fraternity both with the current brothers and ACB (Alumni organization that oversees the house), and then external organizations. I believe by addressing those issues and attempting to implement new procedures that our organization could move forward with positive growth versus the negative spiral that the organization seems to be falling into.
