Organizational Choice, Rebecca Longster, 4/2/08, FrankieL0101
The organization I chose to do this project over will be Wal-Mart. The communication processes there are so tough that you never really get that “family feel” that is supposed to be displayed throughout the store with the fellow employees.
I work at Wal-Mart and it is very hard to communicate with any of the other co-workers in the store. Sure they may smile and wave, or read your nametag and say hello; but there is so much more needed to run a big corporation. Managers of each department are about as far as you can go on the “food chain” to talk to someone. Things as little as asking off, as well as trading shifts even involve a computer. You can work at Wal-Mart for years and still not know everyone that is not the problem. But you definitely need to be able to know many, at least know a few face outside your department. It is very hard to build personal relationship when even the break room is divided. There are night-time meetings where the associates get together and talk about goals and issues for the day. You’ll be lucky to see a crowd of 10 there.
Wal-Mart needs to become that place again where everyone was on one accord.
When need to take control and get back to the point where the customer was first and always felt at home, because the employees worked jointly to make them feel this way.
