Communication Organization Solution, Scott Dennis, 4/2/08, MandyR0301

Since greek organizations seems to be a popular topic I am going to choose CSR advisors. I have only been in the major for two years and will be graduating in May so I have had limited experience with these advisors. I have friends in the major who have told me horror stories of people not graduating because of miscomminication. I believe of all places a university advising office should have impecible communication skills. We do not only rely on these people for success in our academic career, but also for our furture in general. I understand they are busy and have many students to see and tasks to complete, some are even professors on top of all thier adivising work, but it extremely important that they stay on task with each student.

I know from personal experience that there are times when I have sent ugent messages to my advisor and she either forgot to reply and I would have to re-email her or she would take a week to get back to me. During May-mester I found a job that would qualify for my feild experience in retail, but never heard back until two weeks into Fall 2007 semester that it would be approved, but all my summer hours would not count. After much deliberation and compromising we reached a descision. There was a huge lack of communication during this whole process and if it were not resolved I wouldn't be gradutating in May.

I believe there are several different ways that the CSR advisors could become better communicators to ensure that all students stay on task and excell within thier major as much as possible, while here at Purdue. One of the biggest problems I believe is that everyone is so dependent on technology and emails today they forget how important it is to have face to face meetings. Therefore, there must be something done to help alleviate this habbit of solely email communication.
