Research and Work Log, Scott Dennis, 2/27/08, ChrisP0301
My group is doing a white paper on illegal file sharing. My role so far has been to do research. This is what I have found so far:
http://blogs.pcworld.com/staffblog/archives/000310.html
This article is from 2003 and gives statistics showing that illegal file sharing is declining.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn/A34300-2004Mar29?language=print...
This 2004 Washington Post article says that illegal music downloads pose no threat to legitimate music sales.
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/businesstechnology/2003101281_btfi...
This article contradicts my first article by saying that music piracy is as popular as it ever has been.
http://www.macworld.com/article/132116/2008/02/filesharing.html
This article states that iTunes is more popular than illegal file sharing programs among 9-14 year olds. This could be biased because it comes from macworld.com.
I will continue to do research on the issue of illegal file sharing. The issue is very important, especially among college students.
