File Naming Conventions

Hello everyone ~ Those of you in my section (0101) will have noticed that I sent your Week 4 report back to you with a new file name. That name is composed of your login name and keywords that identify the assignment or what's in the document (ex: FirstnameL0101Wk4report.doc).

This is the way you should name all of your attached files, regardless of whether the file is a .doc (like your 4 week reports are supposed to be) or a .pdf (like many of your other attachments are supposed to be). So, from here on, please remember to use these file naming conventions on all of the files you turn in.

But what if the file is a group document, you ask? Answer: Decide on a name for your group (something with the name of your topic organization, perhaps), and use that with your section number and a keyword. Just make sure EVERYone's name is on the document itself, and that everyone in your group has a copy. (I actually have had students turn in documents with their names nowhere on the document, including the file name. Kinda makes it hard to give those students credit for the assignment, you know? Eye-wink)

In addition, it's a good idea to get in the habit of making sure your name is on your work. Like documenting your work, in the real world, if you don't do it, no one will.
