Week 16 Posting Report

Communication Project Draft, Scott Dennis, 4/16/08, ChrisP0301

Here is the draft of my training program.

Organization Choice, Scott Dennis, 4/2/08, ChrisP0301

I have chosen to solve a problem at the All-American Dining Room. This is where the scholarship athletes from football, basketball, and volleyball eat after practices. I have worked there for the past three years. One problem that I have seen a lot is poorly trained employees. There is a lot of turnover at the dining hall and the new employees are just thrown out there and expected to know what they are doing. The better ones can pick up all the basics within a few weeks, but some people take months to learn regular nightly activities.

Research and Work Log 2, Scott Dennis, 3/6/08, ChrisP0301

Our group has had some communication errors. On Monday, I had sent an email saying that I would work on the purpose statement. After I finished the first couple of parts, I was going to email to the rest of the group to get some feedback, and I had an email from another group member saying that he had already done the whole thing. It doesn't bother me that someone wants to do a lot of work, but it was frustrating to waste about an hour on the purpose statement. For the outline, we were able to clearly divide it into parts.

Week 8 Reading Response, Scott Dennis, 3/1/08, ChrisP0301

Clearly the designed white paper is easier to read. The font is bigger and more spaced out, and the headings are bigger and bolder. This made is much easier to locate a specific section and read the information therein. The designed white paper had charts, diagrams, and lists. Most people understand things better when they can see a visual representation of something rather than just reading or hearing about something. The illustrations made the subject matter much clearer. The undesigned white paper looked like a big mess of words.

My group is doing a white paper on illegal file sharing. My role so far has been to do research. This is what I have found so far:

This article is from 2003 and gives statistics showing that illegal file sharing is declining.

This 2004 Washington Post article says that illegal music downloads pose no threat to legitimate music sales.
