The IMP Lab, located in Heavilon 205A, is supported by funding from the College of Liberal Arts, the Department of English, and the Professional Writing Program. Although small, the lab features three high-end Apple computers and 4 Dell PCs, each of which is equipped with various multimedia software packages and peripherals. Each has a CD/DVD burner, video capture capabilities, and connections to good scanners, a color laser printer, and a wide-format inkjet printer. Peripherals to be added in Fall 2008 include a disk replicator and printer, high-end document camera, sheetfeed scanner, gamining equipment, and more.
Information about the computers and peripherals in the lab is available, as well as a complete list of software offered on the machines. Documentation for using the IMP to accomplish specific tasks is available on the professional writing program's documentation page.
Faculty and students in English may use the equipment in this lab to prepare multimedia content for courses and other projects. Faculty and teaching assistants may request a key from Lisa Hartman in the main English Dept. office. All other students may check out a key during normal business hours from Cathy Archer in the Professional Writing Office, Heavilon 302. Questions about lab usage should be directed to the Director of Professional Writing, Dr. David Blakesley.
Users are asked to make sure that they have read the IMP Guidelines (offered here as an Adobe PDF document) before using the lab. A copy of the guidelines is also posted in the lab. Lab users are also asked sign up for an announcements-only mailing list which will keep them informed about changes, upgrades, and other news about the lab.
