Social Authorship: Networking del.icio.us research
written by mcsantos on Sun, 02/11/2007 - 21:39.
Today's workshop aims to introduce you to the power of social networking by combining our efforts.
List of Subjects
First, we need to create a list of 8 to 10 subjects we wanted researched. Everyone will be responsible for one topic.
Setting Up del.icio.us Accounts
- Open del.icio.us in either a new tab or window.
- Fill out the registration form (link is on the top left corner of the screen). You will have to check your email for a confirmation email.
- Next, we want to add a few buttons to our browser bar. While I recommend using all three, you will want the "post" button for today's workshop.
What is tagging?
- Santos will give a brief demonstration of how to post and talk about "tagging."
- Demonstrate a del.icio.us search w/ "invention" (and then "invention" w/ "composition").
Divide and Conquer
For this stage, search the internet for resources. I have provided a list of likely helpful engines and sites, but feel free to use any resource.
- Del.icio.us
- Zuula--try it, trust me, you'll like it
- PlanetSearch--Five search engines not enough? Try 16.
- Purdue's OWL
- NCTE--check out the resource collections
- CompPile--collection of Writing Program Administrator's resouces
- Don't bother to ask me what all these do...
- Internet Archive--kind of like a fleamarket, you never know when you're going to find a gem
Combine and Share
- With our remaining time, which is hopefully around 20 minutes, we want to network to each other's accounts
