Week 15

December 1, 2008
Reminder! We will meet in the Krannert Library Computer Lab to explore Second Life, at our usual time (11:30). Here are the directions:
The library is the 2nd floor of the Krannert Building… and the computer area is now on the east side of the building (it was just moved because of the remodeling, so there are plenty of signs as you come in.)
Before this meeting (and if you don't already have an account and avatar) try to download the Second Life software, create your account, and complete the tasks on Orientation Island. To get access to the Purdue Island, you'll need to join the group "Purdue Guest."
What's due . . .
- Update your Big Project log.
- Update your Small Project log, as needed.
Developing Your Avatar in Second Life
See if you can spruce up your avatar so that you aren't tagged as a newbie even if you're not entirely, like Professor Blakesley. We'll watch this video tutorial in class.
Studio Work: Peer Review
- Chris Arnold, Usability Testing on Big Project, Round 2
Big and Small Project Planning and Development
- Use class time to plan, discuss, and continue work on your Big Project and your Small Projects.

Using InDesign to Make Storyboards and Wireframes
Mon, 09/29/2008 - 07:13 — David Blakesley
Watch this short Flash movie to learn how to make a storyboard for your design project using Adobe InDesign. Before you start, you should open InDesign so that you can pause the movie and create your storyboard in sequence.
Also, review these storyboard possibilities to get some ideas for customizing your storyboards for your project:

Introductions

Welcome to English 680S!
So that we can get to know each other a little better, please post a reply to this message in which you
- describe where you are from
- give your course of study and year in the graduate program
- talk about your areas of specialization and career goals
- tell what you would like to get out of this course
- share at least one thing personal about yourself (a hobby, your favorite sport, a favorite activity, etc.)
I'll start. I've lived in West Lafayette since 2000, when I first came to Purdue. I was promoted to full professor in 2006. My areas of specialization include professional writing, rhetorical theory, digital media, print publishing, and film. In 2002 I founded Parlor Press, an independent scholarly publisher. I'm also involved with Purdue's Entrepreneurial Leadership Academy, a program of the Burton Morgan Center in Discovery Park.
My favorite sports are golf and baseball, but I spend most of my free time playing with new gadgets, including my twins.
