Student-Led Discussion

Hi everyone!

I just wanted to share something with all of you. I just posted my student-led discussion rubric to the handouts page. I've decided to require all of my students to do one day of student-led discussion. I divided them into groups of three and gave each group a discussion date.

Their requirements include leading 30 minutes of class with an activity and discussion questions that focus on the readings and content covered that week. This will happen almost every Thursday, which falls at the end of my instructional week (I have conferences with them on Fridays).

This is going to account for 50% of their discussion grade (so 5% of their overall grade). Since I teach at 7:30, I thought it would be a good way to get things moving so early in the morning. The other day I put discussion in their hands and it worked SO well, so I'm optimistic about the potential of this idea. We'll see! Anyhoos, thought I'd share in case anyone else wanted to do something similar. I'll go ahead and attach it to this blog post, too.

Liz
