Leading up to the Visual Rhetoric project, my students and I discussed the war recruitment posters found in the visual rhetoric chapter of CDA. Then we compared these posters to parodies of the same posters, with an anti-war bent. (Huh? I hope that makes sense.) I've attached examples of the paired posters (the originals and the parodies) below. If you want to see more examples of these posters, you can visit www.antiwarposters.com

Peace out,
CE
http://www.digitalparlor.org/fa07/blackmon2/node/208#comments Thu, 06 Dec 2007 09:34:31 -0500 celder 208 at http://www.digitalparlor.org/fa07/blackmon2 Proposed Reading List http://www.digitalparlor.org/fa07/blackmon2/node/207
Here's the way my proposed reading list shook out.

Lou
http://www.digitalparlor.org/fa07/blackmon2/node/207#comments Thu, 06 Dec 2007 08:41:49 -0500 lslimak 207 at http://www.digitalparlor.org/fa07/blackmon2 Syllabus Revision http://www.digitalparlor.org/fa07/blackmon2/node/206
Alright, so after talking with Sam, here's a possible syllabus revision.

Week 1 Diagnostic Writing
Week 2 RR1 – adver-gaming
Week 3 Day 1 Off
Week 4 RR2 – group advertising
Week 5
Week 6 Paper 1
Week 7 RR3 – Multimodal Narrative
Week 8 RR4 – Source Evaluation
Week 9 Visual Rhetoric
Week 10 SPRING BREAK
Week 11
Week 12 Paper 2
Week 13 Abstract
Week 14 Annotated Bib
Week 15 Research Paper
Week 16 Presentation
http://www.digitalparlor.org/fa07/blackmon2/node/206#comments Tue, 04 Dec 2007 11:07:24 -0500 aderosa 206 at http://www.digitalparlor.org/fa07/blackmon2 syllabus in progress http://www.digitalparlor.org/fa07/blackmon2/node/205
Syllabus
http://www.digitalparlor.org/fa07/blackmon2/node/205#comments Tue, 04 Dec 2007 10:08:18 -0500 dr. b. 205 at http://www.digitalparlor.org/fa07/blackmon2 Computer Assignment http://www.digitalparlor.org/fa07/blackmon2/node/204
Here is my computer class assignment.
Maria Granic-White

Computer Assignment

1. The other point of the activity was to teach students about the structure of the paragraph and essay without, you know, actually having to teach it. The first time I assigned it, I had it available on my class web site, students opened it, and they typed their answers in. In the future, I might print it out. While this wastes papers, that will help me avoid students simply copying and pasting their answers into the blanks.

Crissy
http://www.digitalparlor.org/fa07/blackmon2/node/203#comments Tue, 04 Dec 2007 08:35:19 -0500 cmcmarti 203 at http://www.digitalparlor.org/fa07/blackmon2 Computer Class Ideas From Liz http://www.digitalparlor.org/fa07/blackmon2/node/202
Hi all,

http://www.digitalparlor.org/fa07/blackmon2/node/202#comments Sun, 02 Dec 2007 12:33:42 -0500 ehoman 202 at http://www.digitalparlor.org/fa07/blackmon2 Suggestion for Group Advocacy http://www.digitalparlor.org/fa07/blackmon2/node/201
I would like to propose moving the group advocacy assignment to the beginning of the semester.

First, I feel like having the students work together from the start will have a positive impact on the collaborative nature of the class by fostering more cooperation and less competition, especially important in activities like peer review. I also hope that other group projects -- perhaps a multi-media or video one (see Liz's blog) -- could be added later in the semester to help maintain this collaborative spirit throughout.

http://www.digitalparlor.org/fa07/blackmon2/node/201#comments Response papers Sat, 01 Dec 2007 12:07:55 -0500 Kmc 201 at http://www.digitalparlor.org/fa07/blackmon2 Tech Suggestions http://www.digitalparlor.org/fa07/blackmon2/node/200
After playing a competitive round of Find It!, we moved on and into a discussion of search engines (which ones to use for what - Google, Google Scholar, Academic Search Premier, JStor, the library book catalog, etc...) how to find full text articles, and how to evaluate credibility in journals, books, web sources, and find an appropriate fit. We took actual prompts from the game - actual "requests" from the patrons - and in groups came up with sources found through a variety of the engines and then discussed their level of utility.

http://www.digitalparlor.org/fa07/blackmon2/node/200#comments Thu, 29 Nov 2007 09:38:42 -0500 lslimak 200 at http://www.digitalparlor.org/fa07/blackmon2
