Then you can go through some of them, talk about the images used, when they appear in the chosen song (are there pictures of water when the song talks about the ocean?) and make a class movie. Then converse about the rhetorical effectiveness.

Not very innovative, but potentially fun and interesting.
http://www.digitalparlor.org/fa07/blackmon2/node/199#comments Thu, 29 Nov 2007 09:37:03 -0500 aderosa 199 at http://www.digitalparlor.org/fa07/blackmon2 My Political Assignments http://www.digitalparlor.org/fa07/blackmon2/node/177
As promised, here are the political assignments I'm going to be using for the final few assignments.
http://www.digitalparlor.org/fa07/blackmon2/node/177#comments Thu, 11 Oct 2007 11:52:14 -0400 aderosa 177 at http://www.digitalparlor.org/fa07/blackmon2 It's my prerogative http://www.digitalparlor.org/fa07/blackmon2/node/175
"New Kids" in the hiz-ouse!
Sometimes I disappoint myself. Anyway, so here's how I think I'm structuring the final 3 basic assignments (RR4, Paper 2, Research paper).

All of this is based out of a shift to the political in class.

RR4: Very simply put, they'll be writing an Op-Ed piece on a subject of their choosing. They'll have to pick a relevant and recent news article and respond to the issue using whatever strategy they think works best (ethos/pathos/logos).

http://www.digitalparlor.org/fa07/blackmon2/node/175#comments Thu, 04 Oct 2007 00:04:55 -0400 aderosa 175 at http://www.digitalparlor.org/fa07/blackmon2 On Paper 2 http://www.digitalparlor.org/fa07/blackmon2/node/172
If we do the same assignment for Paper 2 where we assign them the task of picking a topic, how do we prevent them from choosing the same topics again? Anyway have suggestions on limitations? Paper 1 for me was focused on the Purdue/Lafayette area. Should Paper 2 be national? Right now I'm leaning towards politics.
http://www.digitalparlor.org/fa07/blackmon2/node/172#comments Mon, 01 Oct 2007 08:09:42 -0400 aderosa 172 at http://www.digitalparlor.org/fa07/blackmon2 On Newkirk http://www.digitalparlor.org/fa07/blackmon2/node/113
To read Newkirk in conjunction with the Harris article, we’re left with a very interesting dilemma about the role of teachers in a one-on-one conference. Whereas Harris draws distinctions between in-class peer review and the tutoring that goes on in the Writing Center, so too must we draw a distinction between the teacher in the classroom and the teacher in conference.

http://www.digitalparlor.org/fa07/blackmon2/node/113#comments Wed, 15 Aug 2007 08:56:52 -0400 aderosa 113 at http://www.digitalparlor.org/fa07/blackmon2
