Here's another (pretty interesting) article about making money in Second Life, from Wired.

My SL Store

Last winter break I opened up a small T-shirt shop in Second Life. T-shirts were about the only piece of clothing my minimal skills could produce. I rented a little spot in a sim that I already hung out in a lot and had a lot of friend in. I wouldn't say I made any money, but I didn't expect too. Shirts were about 100 lindens, which is really only a few pennies in FL. Still, I probably sold about 100 shirts all together in three months and the experience was really cool. It's a great way to experience having a business without any of the headaches. I had to decide how to set up the shop, how to display the product, and the best way to try and advertise. Seeing other avatars wearing your creations (especially when I didn't even know them) was a surreal but really cool experience. The store also became a little bit of a hangout spot, which became a bigger success in my eyes that making money. Honestly, how would I have ever had this experience in FL without serious time and cash? Again, SL ftw!
