DuBois oh boy

Morgan Tristana's picture

I got to "Of the Coming of John" this morning. It may have been one of the most painful things I have ever read. It was up there with Holicost lit and current statisics on AIDS and starvation.
All through this text I was upset by what hasnt happened. DuBois wasnt asking too much, he was asking everyone to just chill the fuck out and to see each other as people. It was frustrating reading this, knowing it was published 100 years ago, and seeing the same comments that are present now on education, discourse community, racism, poverty and mean people.
If nothing else, this was a damn fine piece of Pathos (and there is no sarcasm here). I bawled like a baby by the end of that chapter and my cat looked at me like I had sprouted a fish tail.
Kudos to DuBois. Anyone else?
