Dear Brad Alford,
I am writing in response to the advertisement Nestle posted on the Purdue Center for Career Opportunities database for the logistics intern position. I am currently pursuing a dual Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Technology and Industrial Distribution, and I believe Purdue has properly prepared me to pursue a successful career in logistics and supply chain management.
Through my coursework at Purdue, I have acquired planning and management skills through an array of projects and assignments. For example, I was placed into a small group and assigned to develop a product, and the facility to produce that product. We, as a team, were able to analyze layout problems and systematically develop a plant layout by the use of several available systematic tools. Through this project, we learned the importance of the systematic approach to facilities planning and material handling decisions, and I believe the experience I have gained through this project could help Nestle analyze the financial impact of a third tier deal on supply chain.
Through my work experience, I gained practical knowledge on warehouse management working for a book distribution center. While employed at this warehouse, I worked directly with inventory to efficiently facilitate the flow of books on a daily basis. Each day, I met the demands of our customers by organizing pick sheets, actually picking the products throughout the warehouse, and finally labeling, packaging, and sending the products at the end of the day. I have also worked for a commercial construction company. Although the experience with construction does not pertain to logistics intern position, I gain interpersonal skills by relaying information between several project managers within the job site.
I would be grateful for the opportunity to further discuss the position with you. I look forward to learning more about Nestle and its operations, and hope that you would consider me for the opportunity to fulfill your intern position. If you would like to arrange for an interview, please feel free to contact me by email or phone call, both of which are posted above. I would like to thank you for your time, and look forward to your response.
Sincerely,
