Mini theory
Tue, 11/17/2009 - 3:21pm — KelliBarnett
I think that Sharon Martin co-publisher of HELEN magazine is both a choice architect and interviewer. Her main job is to write articles for HELEN but to get those articles she has to interview people and do profiles on inspirational women. In this way, she is an interviewer first and must consider her respondent when proceeding. She is also a choice architect because she has to pick which parts of the interview she wants to publish and she picks which women are the most inspirational for her to interview and what advertisements get to the readers.

Mini Theory
Tue, 11/17/2009 - 3:21pm — sadiekobe
Grant writers need the ability to see the available means of persuasion –which is Aristotle’s definition of rhetoric. Grant writing is all about being able to take many different voices (written documents) and create one concise document. The grant writer must also be able to make a persuasive claim in order to get the grant passed. If they are unable to see the available means they will not have as strong of an argument as possible.

My Interview
Tue, 11/17/2009 - 3:20pm — purplepassion1889
One thing that stuck out to me was Shirky's philosophy that anyone could be an writer and using technology and social networking to your advantage. My interviewee went to college for psychology. When she was done with school, she realized that she would rather turn her hobby of writing blogs and posting YouTube videos into a full-time career. She started adding more outlets and now has a licensed business (Hotblaze Entertainment) where she employs others and produces videos, blogs, articles, a weekly radio show, and more.

My Mini-Theory-- bballking11
Tue, 11/17/2009 - 3:14pm — bballking11
My mini-theory as stated in class is centered on the idea of technology.
No matter the situation or circumstance technology is a integral part of life and a career. As my interview illustrated, technology is a constantly changing organ, one that requires constant use, and a persistent attitude so as to most effectively use and reach ones audience. As well as keep up with the times and the trends unique to this period in business and technology. This is due in large part to his pessimistic attitude toward print media, in this technological age.

Minitheories about Professional Writing based on your interviews

Post at least one minitheory about professional writing that you've developed based on your interview.
Interview with Mary Nauman
Tue, 11/10/2009 - 2:56pm — sadiekobe
My interview took place last Friday. I called her at 4:45 and the interview was conducted over the phone. The sound of needy children echoed in my ear and I quickly realized the reason we could not meet for a face-to-face interview, she was at home watching her children. She was very enthusiastic about talking to me and we had a great discussion. I learned a lot about grant writing that I hadn't known before.
Expectations for Interview
Tue, 11/10/2009 - 2:55pm — bdickey88
My interview with Writing to Win president Stacie Marsh is set for this Thursday, November 12 at 4 p.m.. Stacie suggested we meet at Starbucks near her place of work. Throughout our correspondence our emails have become very casual, following her lead. I expect since she wanted to meet in a relaxed environment, the interview will be fairly relaxed and comfortable. Her experience shows she is very knowledgeable so I expect to learn a lot. More specifically, I expect she will explain to me the basic ideals of grant writing and how to carry on a career in the field.

Expectations going into the interview
Tue, 11/10/2009 - 2:53pm — KelliBarnett
My interview will take place on Thursday morning in the Full Moon Communications office. I feel a little nervous about the interview, but I feel that I will learn a lot from Sharon. I hope to learn how her education helps her with the magazine and what she has learned on the job about publishing. I also hope she will talk about some of the interactions she's had with her readers and how that affects her writing.

Interview
Tue, 11/10/2009 - 2:52pm — ShannaEPurdue
I conducted my interview of Julie Krizen on Sunday November 8. Julie is an evening news anchor at Channel 18 and is also a reporter and producer. I was very nervous going into the interview because I did not know what to expect. I arrived at the station and Julie met me at the door. She gave me a tour of the studio. We did the interview in the break room. It was informal and I felt very comfortable. The interview went really well. I learned a lot about being in news. A lot of work is put into news. Reporters, producers and anchors have to write their own stories. Julie is all three of these.
