After learning more about this project, I became really excited with all the possibilities that could come from this. I am really into the arts and thought it would be a lot of fun to work with an organization that is based around that. The Tippecanoe Arts Federation has events all the time ranging from weekly belly dance classes to Christmas art fairs and sales. To help this federation out and satisfy the requirements for this project we could create different flyers informing the local community and Purdue students about some of the various classes offered.

When we were first introduced to the Client Based Project, I was clueless as to what company I would offer to work for. When I got to thinking about which types of businesses are constantly developing public documents I thought of the fliers that I see from local coffee houses around campus. There are a couple of coffee houses on campus such as Greyhouse and Vienna. I have been to both the Skylight Coffee House and Java Roaster in Lafayette and have noticed that there are always very few people in the downtown shops as compared to the busy campus locations.

When I first heard about the project, I immediately knew which business I was interested in. Sage Yoga & Pilates Studio is a new business in West Lafayette. They are located at the bottom of Chauncey at 221 E State Street. The business opened last year. I think it is a great idea considering Lafayette, especially West Lafayette, does not have a lot of yoga and pilates work out centers. My friend, Chad, knows one of the girls who is a co-owner of Sage. Although I have never done yoga, I have done pilates and took a great interest in this new business.

I am proposing a project that is for the ease of elderly in West Lafayette. There is a service that Lafayette society does. They enroll trustees to pay the housing and residency payments for people that are too old or are with disability. This service also caters for trustees who want to pay for medicines to the sponsored. Also some seniors who qualify can also avail disability insurance and various other kinds of insurances too.

In marketing 324, one of my group members is starting a business down by the Wabash landing. Him, and a few of his friends have put in order to buy the building and already have the drawings made up. They recently presented the idea to a Purdue interior design class to ask them if they would be willing to help them. They did this so they could get the ideas from the students who are specializing in this area here at Purdue, as well as letting the students gain a firsthand experience in using the skills there learning about.

When this project was first introduced, my mind immediately went to the many non-profit organizations in the Greater Lafayette Area. However when Mr. Baker said that this would not be a good idea due to the amount of work that most Non-profits would request, I started thinking that maybe I still could do a non-profit, just one within Purdue rather than the Lafayette community at large.

When considering local businesses for our client-based project, I initally wanted to choose a company that I already knew fairly well. My first choice was La Salsa, the restaurant in the basement of the Union. After reading a classmates proposal though, I decided that I also wanted to do this project with a local coffee house. I recently went to Vienna Espresso Bar and Bakery, and I was extremely pleased not only with the drink, but the entire establishment as a whole.

When we were assigned this project, I immediately thought of working with a company whose target market is Purdue students. As students creating documents for the company, I feel we could leverage our effect in helping the company by having first hand insight of how to hit the target population. I first thought of places on campus, but then also thought of places off campus, such as in Lafayette, that target Purdue students but don’t have the advantage of being seen by students on campus every day.
