Section 022

Introduction

My name is Brittany Ballweber. I am from Homer Glen, Illinois which is in the south side of Chicago (SOX!) This year, I am a junior in Krannert hoping for degree in management and minor in marketing. While I am not sure which career path I am headed, I do know that I am looking for a job in business, in which I can directly deal with people. Dealing with customers has been something I have enjoyed since I was 16, especially since I love to talk! After this course I hope to leave with a unique resume and internship leading me into the real job world!

Eger Element of Email Style 022

This was a very interesting article for many reasons. The most relevant to me was the fact that people are angrier on email. I have experienced this many times at my place of work. I will have an employee send an email complaining or blaming me, but when I see the person to talk about the situation they are very understanding. It is weird, but very true, how much of a difference there is in demeanor when the person you are communicating with will not instantly respond. The simple clicking of the send button can lead to some complex problems down the road.

The subject of email is one that I deal with on a daily basis. Both as a student and as a member of my band. I feel as though I am constantly battling to find the right words and punctuations to use in order to make sure that I get my point across correctly. The NPR interview touched on a lot of good points that I think can be of great help when writing an email.

Punzal Elements of Email 022

Reading the article and listening to the interview was very interesting to me but also very relatable. I probably send a few emails everyday to teachers or my parents or friends, etc., and every time, I try to keep in mind my "tone." When writing to my friends, I definitely have a very relaxed carefree way of writing my email, then if I were writing to a teacher, I try to sound professional and clean. I also have been in a few situations where I have received emails or text messages or instant messages where I have perceived them differently then I know were intended.
