Welcome to COIN!
The Collaborative Online Instructors Network has been created to encourage the sharing of teaching ideas and materials among instructors of IC@P (Introductory Composition at Purdue). COIN is meant to serve as a decentralized and collaborative online space to build a stronger sense of community among IC@P instructors through the exchange of pedagogical advice and materials. In this way, COIN enables instructors to mentor and be mentored by one another to mutually enrich their professional development as teachers of composition. Thus as a peer-driven resource COIN is not monitored by the administration of IC@P, but is self-directed and self-sustained by the instructors themselves.
The focus of the site is building the Network's Community Forum as an open and ongoing venue for exchanging ideas, offering suggestions, and discussing pedagogical issues among peer instructors. Here you can ask for help and offer advice on specific concerns related to teaching here at Purdue, or pursue general questions about composition theory and different approaches to teaching writing.
The Network also includes the COIN Library, a collection of collaborative books focused on particular topics or themes of the composition course, such as Rhetorical Awareness, Research, and Multimedia Composition. This library provides a variety of pedagogical materials for the novice and experienced instructor alike – from lesson plans to assignments, all related to aspects of teaching composition.
We encourage all users to not only browse the Forum and Library, but also contribute their insights and materials. The more we build up these two areas, the more successful the network will be in serving as a resource for everyone.
